GETTING TO KYOTO WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY

The KWU campus is located in Higashiyama Ward of Kyoto city and is easily accessible from the city center by public transport, taxi or even on foot.

From Kansai Airport

Take the JR line from Kansai airport station. The quickest and most convenient way is to take the Limited Express Haruka. This is a reserved seat express that only stops at two or three stations on the way to Kyoto. It takes 75 minutes from KIX to Kyoto JR station.  Trains depart KIX every half hour or so.

From elsewhere in Japan outside Kansai

If you are traveling from outside Kansai, you will probably arrive at Kyoto station by Shinkansen. The station is right downtown and from there you can reach KWU campus with ease.

From around Kansai

If you are coming from places in Kansai you have several options.

The JR ‘Shinkaisoku’ limited express connects Humeji, Kobe, Sanomiya, Osaka, Shin Osaka and Kyoto JR station. Journey time from Osaka is approximately 30 minutes. Trains run approximately every 15 minutes.

The Hankyu Line Runs from Osaka to Kyoto and arrives at Hankyu Kawaramachi station in Shijo. Journey time from Osaka is approximately 45 minutes. From Kawaramachi station the KWU campus is readily accessible by bus or taxi.

The Keihan line runs from Osaka Yodoyabashi station (One stop away from Osaka JR station on the Midosuji line.) Alight at Shichijo station. From that station the KWU campus is accessible by bus, taxi or on foot.

Reaching the campus

From downtown Kyoto, either Kawaramachi station or JR Kyoto station a taxi fare to the campus will be about 700-800 yen depending on traffic.  From Shichijo station a taxi up the hill to the campus will be the minimum fare of 630 yen. Walking will take about 10-15 minutes.

Princess Line Bus

The Princess Line Bus is a bus service that serves the KWU campus from downtown. All buses terminate at the KWU campus. The set fare, wherever you get on, is 230 yen, payable in cash when you get off the bus. (You can receive change for a 1,000 yen note on the bus.) Note that most (all?) prepaid cards and travel passes such a pitapa are not usable on this bus. Cash is preferable.

  • If you are arriving at Kyoto JR station you can get the Princess line bus on the Hachijyoguchi side of the station. This is the opposite side of the station to Kyoto Tower. The bus stop is E2. Busses run every 5-7 minutes during the day, less frequently on Sundays.

  • If you are arriving on the Hankyu line at Kawaramachi station, you can catch the Princess line bus just outside the station on Kawaramachi street.

  • If you are arriving on Keihan at Shichijo, the Princess line bus stop is on Shichijo-dori about 30 meters from the station exit.
