The event will take place take place at Hattoji Sanso, a traditional Japanese-style house in the mountain village of Hattoji, Okayama. Participants will have to pay for accommodation (around 3000 yen per night) and food (extra), help pitch in with the cooking and will be expected to arrange their own transport to the venue.

Getting there

Hattoji is not very close to anywhere, but that is part of the point. We want to get away from the distractions of city life so that we can concentrate on research intensively and without interruptions (Note: it is unlikely that you will be able to get a strong Internet connection in Hattoji).

Some participants will be driving, and if so it may be possible to hitch a ride with one of them. If not, the best way is to take a train on the JR Sanyo line to Yoshinaga and then take a taxi to Hattoji. We suggest you coordinate with other participants so you can share a cab.

Those traveling by car will stop along the way at Kamigori for lunch and to buy food for the remainder of the retreat.

Registration

The event will be limited to fifteen (15) participants. To register, please fill out the online form by July 14th at the latest. Contact Tim Greer if you have any questions.
